Newton recognized as the "Garden City", rests within the Middlesex County of Massachusetts. In accordance to the 2000 census the city's population rested at 83,829. For the past three years (2003, 2004, 2005) Newton was ranked number one for being the nation's safest city.
Settled in 1630 as part of Cambridge, MA, it converted into a separate city recognized as Cambridge Village in 1688. It was then renamed Newton in 1691 and once again Newton in 1766 and became a city in 1873.
Newton is residence to the well known Boston College, resting in the city's notable community of Chestnut Hill, as well as Boston College Law School, positioned on a different campus in Newton Centre. There are quite a few additional establishments of superior schooling in the city of Newton including Aquinas College, Andover Newton Theological School, Hebrew College, and Mount Ida College.
